Composer/performer Ben Neill is the inventor of the Mutantrumpet, a hybrid electro-acoustic instrument, and is known as a musical innovator who “uses a schizophrenic trumpet to create art music for the people” (Wired Magazine). Neill generates immersive experiences that merge ambient music, electronic grooves, and interactive video, all controlled live by his instrument. The Mutantrumpet was created with synth pioneer Robert Moog and the STEIM studios in Amsterdam. Fourteen albums of Neill's music have been released on labels including Universal/Verve, Thirsty Ear, and Astralwerks. Based in New York, his performances include BAM Next Wave Fest, Big Ears Fest, Lincoln Center, Whitney Museum, Broad Museum, Bing Concert Hall, Getty Museum, Cite de la Musique, Moogfest, Spoleto Festival, Umbria Jazz, Bang On A Can Fest, ICA London, Istanbul Jazz Fest, Vienna Jazz Fest, and the Edinburgh Fest, among many others. His first book, Diffusing Music, was released by Bloomsbury Press in 2024.
