Meladao is the solo project of Jan-Gerrit Lütgering, a Double Bassist, Composer and Improviser residing in northern Germany. He usually performs on and writes for his 5-string Double Bass, equipped with a high C-string. In his compositions he attempts to bring together various disparate styles of music that have influnced him, such as: Heavy Metal and Progressive Rock, Medieval and Renaissance music, Indian Classical Music, Soundtrack Music and others. Since 2020, he has been producing a semi-regular series of improvisations entitled "Daily Drones", in which he explores the scales of Indian Classical Music by way of his Double Bass, accompanied frequently by the Surpeti, a drone producing instrument. He is currently perpetually working on developing a solo repertoire involving the Double Bass and a looper.
