Maria Baptist is a pianist, composer, conductor, and bandleader. She has been nominated 5 times for the German Record Critics’ Award, including for the Annual Award, for recordings such as “Hopes & Fears” and “The Bright and the Dark”. Deutschlandfunk Kultur describes Maria Baptist as “one of Germany’s truly great jazz musicians,” while DownBeat compares her to Keith Jarrett. Her work includes over 250 compositions and 17 albums, all released on her own label. Two main areas define her work today: the Maria Baptist Orchestra, founded over a decade ago, which she presents in a Berlin concert series with 110+ concerts to date, and solo piano performances centered on extended live improvisation. Maria Baptist brings a striking intensity to her concerts through her high-energy live presence. From her richly layered compositions emerges music of haunting beauty.
