Here are a few movies created using Rayleigh, a spherical-geometry, pseudo-spectral convection code that I have been developing. Spatial discretization is accomplished using spherical harmonics in the horizontal directions. Chebyshev polynomials are used in the radial direction. What makes Rayleigh truly unique amongst other stellar/planetary convection codes is its underlying parallel framework. That framework allows this pseudo-spectral code to scale efficiently to many thousands of cores (presently tested on up to 262,144 cores at Mira, ALCF). Development of Rayleigh is supported by the NSF support through the Computational Infrastructure for Geodynamics group (CIG, UC Davis). Rayleigh is open-source and is due to be released in summer 2016 at the CIG all hands meeting. Stay tuned! (be sure and click the HD option for these movies)
