Field recording and amateur radio were for me, a form of respite from hours spent at the drawing board, hand-drafting and carrying out structural calculations with a slide-rule and log tables, before the advent of electronic calculators and computer-aided design; as a career grade Local Government Officer in Public Health Engineering working towards my professional qualifications as a Public Health Engineer & Chartered Water & Environmental Manager. Now retired, I still enjoy field recording, but travel light with just a handheld recorder. As a Full Class Radio Licence holder, I try to help others read morse with the videos. Regular listening to morse aids progress; forget counting individual dits & dahs, try to learn the melody of each character or word. I wish I had known this method earlier, as it would have made it less stressful for me during the Home Office Practical Morse Test at the International Maritime Radio Offices in Walsingham House, London.
