The mission of Jazz Power Initiative (JPI) is to ignite the power of jazz arts education and transform lives by fostering self-expression, leadership, collaboration and diversity. Founded as the Jazz Drama Program in 2003 by jazz musician/educator Eli Yamin and writer/educator Clifford Carlson, we rebranded in 2017 as Jazz Power Initiative, a dba with the same EIN number.
Since its beginning in 2003, Jazz Power Initiative (formerly The Jazz Drama Program) has pub-lished and recorded three jazz musicals for young performers, and has worked with 3650 youth, 763 educators, and 120 seniors in the United States and abroad, with total live audiences of over 41,000, and thousands more online.
Led by highly experienced teaching artists and jazz, theater and dance professionals, JPI offers cultural immersion and multidisciplinary training to New York City youth, to engage and develop each student’s artistic and creative talents along with academic and social skills.
