NYC-based Balinese gamelan
Gamelan Dharma Swara is one of the US’ preeminent Balinese music and dance ensembles, captivating audiences for over 30 years.
Performing traditional pieces along with contemporary compositions, DS has been called “thrilling, mesmerizing and powerful” (New York Times).
The first non-Balinese gamelan invited to the Bali Arts Festival, the group has performed at BAM, MoMA, Central Park Summerstage, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Symphony Space, The Asia Society, National Sawdust, Basilica Hudson, as well as Yale, Princeton and Columbia Universities.
In 2023, they performed at Lincoln Center at the invitation of The NYPhil.
DS Commissions and premiers works by composers including Gusti Komin (artist-in-residence), Joel Mellin, Nerissa Campbell, and Matthew Welch, as well as works by seminal Balinese composers, such as Made Subandi and Dewa Ketut Alit.
