Starting as a single live stream on creator Jacob S Allen’s Facebook profile as a way to entertain family and friends participating in quarantines all over the world, Socially Distant Fest has quickly grown into a viral movement for performing artists struggling to find gigs, shows, and opportunities to perform while practicing ‘social distancing’ to avoid spreading germs and contagious diseases. The format of Facebook Live Video allows artists to stay in their own home and share their talents on a worldwide platform, and audiences to enjoy live performances from the comfort of their living rooms and offering opportunity for individuals to support artists through small monetary tips, much like the traditional style of busking.
