The Integrative Movement Sciences Institute (IMSI) is an NSF Biology Integration Institute focused on understanding the muscular control of movement across all scales, from molecular to ecological. IMSI connects over 20 institutions and unites experts in biomechanics, biophysics, physiology, neuroscience, and engineering. Together, our research teams investigate the principles behind agile, efficient, and adaptive movement, with implications for health, rehabilitation, and technology. IMSI fosters interdisciplinary research, offering inclusive training for the next generation of scientists through mentorship, team science, leadership development, and open-data sharing.
