The Center for the Critical Study of the Health of Latinx Communities (Critical Study HLC) is based at UC Berkeley’s Latinx Research Center and was launched in 2023 with support from the California Legislature. Led by Dr. Clara Mantini-Briggs and Professor Charles L. Briggs, the Center documents stories of Latinx and Chicanx community organizing for justice in health and healthcare access, from the 1960s to today. Our project preserves the voices and experiences of grassroots leaders who have shaped struggles for health equity, quality of life, housing, labor conditions, and education. On this channel, you’ll find oral history interviews, recorded community conversations, and archival storytelling that keep these vital histories alive for future generations. By sharing these narratives, we hope to reframe and challenge the systemic roots of health inequities in Latinx communities.
