Welcome to the Jollyville Screech Owl House, home to a wild and free female eastern screech owl and her family. This nest box is located in Austin, Texas, USA. Screech owls usually lay eggs around the 2nd or 3rd week of March. They take about 30 days to hatch and another 30 to fledge. We've been streaming since 2014 and have had at least four female residents, but consitently the same male, whom we've named Alton. He has to be at least 13 years old now. Phoenix is our current female resident. She arrived in April 2021, laid two eggs and hatched one. Then for three years we watched as none of her eggs hatched. Finally, in 2025 she raised three strong owlets we all enjoyed watching. When the owlets fledge, the parents spend the summer teaching them to fly and hunt. At the end of the summer, they send the owlets out on their own. When the weather cools, if we are lucky, our female comes home to her nest box.
