Hello, I'm Martin Saban-Smith, a woodturner and teacher based in Hampshire, working from my workshop near the South Downs National Park. Here, I share what happens at the lathe. Projects, techniques, and design. I'm particularly interested in design and exemplary finishing. There's a real pleasure in making something with your hands, and I try to capture that here, wobbles and all. You'll find occasional live streams on Tuesday evenings, project videos, and over 10 years of workshop life as it actually is. Away from the camera, I teach at The Woodturning School, run Woodturning360 (an international online turning club), and have written two books: Woodturning: Form and Formula, about proportion and why some pieces feel balanced, and A Maker's Mindset, about what making things by hand teaches us.
