Lean on Me Chances are you know someone who has been affected by depression -- it is thought that one in five people will develop depression in their lifetime. Many people affected by depression may feel too scared, ashamed or overwhelmed to talk about it, because they are afraid to be judged by others. Without appropriate help, the emotional, physical and social impact of depression may be long lasting and devastating. Being a real friend can make all the difference in helping someone with depression get the help they need. Lean on Me is an innovative, uplifting new campaign which aims to dispel the myths surrounding depression, encourage better understanding and empower people to provide support to those affected by depression and encourage them to seek treatment. Friends and family support can reduce time to treatment initiation and help improve recovery outcomes for those with depression. Indeed, the World Health Organization says "psychological support from family, friends, or health providers is powerfully protective" in depression. Lean on Me encourages everyone to reach out to those affected by depression and be a friend to lean on. For more information visit www.leanonme.net
