Chris Armour is a Wellington based guitarist/producer often found as a sideman for a number of New Zealand artists like Miles Calder, Louis TM, Wayne Mason, King Leo, Belladonna, Oscar LaDell and OdESSA.
2023 will see the release of his debut solo release Unamericana, an album of cinematic soundscapes consisting of story-like songs that focus heavily on composition, dynamic and arrangement.
The album takes the instrumentation & tonal pallet of Americana and blends this with wider world & ambient influences, jumping between songs that embody the sounds of Laurel Canyon, tumbleweed Tex-Mex, 50’s Hawaiian influenced Surf, West African and Cuban music. The songs evoke scenery and situation.
Self produced and mixed, the album has an intimacy and honesty to it found in the sounds behind the music. The buzz, scratch, hum, & chair creaks that firmly place the sound and songs in Chris’ home studio
