"Punk the Capital" is both a Documentary film and a long term documentation project, both focused on D.C. Punk history.
When punk erupted in the nation's capital in the late 1970's, it was a mighty inter-generational convergence of friendships, clear minds, and powerful, uncompromising music. The sounds and people that emerged from those early years of punk/hardcore-punk continue to inspire around the world. Punk the Capital is working to further the ongoing impact of DC punk.
In addition to their other work with D.C. Punk, DC veteran punk filmmakers James June Schneider and Paul Bishow along with Sam Lavine have teamed up to bring forth the first film on the birth of DC Punk: "Punk the Capital; Building a Sound Movement". It explores the inspiring early days of D.C. punk, from the wild mix of bands of the late 70's through the harDCore explosion of the early 80's. It features groups like Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Slickee Boys.
