The mission of the HPRG is to uncover and share the stories of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pioneers in the Winter Quarters (NE) and Iowa settlements. Our database began with Gail G Holmes noted historian of the area and shared documents from local historical societies. Identified were 90+ settlements. We honor those resting in the 85 pioneer cemeteries in the area spreading 100 miles along the Missouri River, using technologies like ground-penetrating radar, identifying lost graves. To share their stories with descendants and the broader community we created our website, earlylds.com, to make this history accessible. Through our YouTube channel and Facebook page, we bring history to life with videos from "Sojourn in the Wilderness" stories from those early pioneers and the places they lived using AI technology. Our "Storytelling Saturdays Project" tells a weekly story for all to enjoy. We aim to connect the past with the present, inspiring future generations.
