The Alpha Institute, formerly Alpha Boys’ School, founded in 1880, was born of the vision of founder Jessie Ripoll. Her dream was to minister to the hopes and aspirations of disadvantaged Jamaicans and for over 135 years, Alpha has been a source of hope and inspiration.
The Alpha Institute s a registered vocational and educational institution under the Ministry of Education. Skills training is offered to 150 students in: Music, Woodwork, Screen Printing, Landscaping, and Barbering.
Students are admitted according to need, particularly the need to learn a skill in order to sustain themselves. In addition to vocational training, Alpha provides instruction in math and English as well as communication and life skills training.
