The UMD percussion program is run by Henry Eichman and is centered around a “total percussionist” philosophy, meaning that all students have the opportunity study and perform regularly on all major percussion instruments. UMD percussion students can major in Music Education, Music Performance, Jazz Studies, or combine an outside major with the Music BA degree. Our studio boasts a wide range of percussion equipment of the highest professional caliber, including a vast array of world, contemporary, and specialized percussion instruments to complement an impressive collection of traditional concert percussion equipment. Students at UMD have opportunities to play in a diverse array of ensembles, including Percussion Ensemble, Hand Drum Ensemble, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, and several different jazz ensembles.
