Pretendians Band is a Native American rock band based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Despite the name of our band, we are not pretending anything. Half of the band represent the Oceti Ŝakowiŋ (7 Council Fires) of the Dakhota/Lakhota Nation, hailing from Standing Rock and Crow Creek tribes. Most of our songs have a societal and political viewpoint, told from a modern Indigenous perspective.
Formed in 2014, Pretendians crafted their dynamic, energy-fueled brand of conscious rock music by joining lyrics of a heavy societal and indigenous-centric message with dynamic music, drawing from all forms of rock and roll.
As a Native American band, we speak out against the appropriation of our culture, of our history, of our image. Our lyrics speak to that, and it becomes clear that we are against non-genuine images of our culture.
