“Europe” is an idea that is still evolving in the hearts and minds of many people who live there – especially the youth. Since the creation of the European Common Market and through the last expansion of the European Union, the peoples of this continent have been struggling with two questions. One is individual: “Who am I?” – Am I German, or Spanish; or am I simply an immigrant from Kosovo living in Switzerland? The other is collective: “Who are we?” – Are we Europeans, Social Democrats; or maybe simply from countries that share a visa regimen? In either case, the same question underlies any potential answer: “What connects us and why should we care about each other?” As policy makers strive to reduce differences and increase a sense of common belonging, Europes youth still find themselves alienated from the idea of a greater and inclusive Europe. Whether it’s language, education, social mobility, religion, or other reasons, young people face divisions that prevent them from reaching
