The Elliot Freedman Group advances a harmonically elegant, uncompromisingly original, non-canonical jazz based in Elliot’s compositions, his unique harmonic vocabulary, and a chordal approach on long-scale baritone guitars.
Elliot's Vancouver-based ‘working group’ features vibraphonist Nick Apivor, bassist Dan Howard, and long-time drummer Paul Mason--and lately also pianist John Julian and accordionist Taras Luka.
Elliot's Toronto-based group is focused around drummer Mateo Salmon and Lazar Mirc, on saxaphone & EWI, and has featured bassists Josh Warren, Phil Albert, and Jordan Pelunsky. Collaborations and guests to the group have included Portland's John Stowell, Victoria's Cascadia Strings, and (forthcoming) Edmonton's Audrey Ochoa.
