Nuchigusui is an Okinawan dialect word meaning "medicine for life." It refers to meals that sustain life by providing heartwarming and healthful nourishment.
Since the days of the Ryukyu Kingdom, Okinawa has actively traded with China, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Korea, Japan, and other neighboring countries. This vibrant exchange led to the development of a unique and diverse food culture. Additionally, the challenges of the subtropical climate and island geography inspired the creation of distinctive cuisine, relying on available ingredients and traditional wisdom.
It is precisely because Okinawa still retains its unique culture that we feel a responsibility to preserve it for future generations.
In this program, we closely follow the lifestyle of an 88-year-old man who lived through that era, exploring his experiences through food. His story not only reflects the culture and history of Okinawa but also conveys the wisdom of past generations to the world and future generations.
