The Whale Guitar is an instrument of change! It’s mission is to inspire followers of the guitarists who play it to take action against plastic pollution and climate change. Ripple by ripple, we can heal the ocean! We can avert climate change and support the marine-life our own lives depend upon for the very air we breathe! Inspired by Herman Melville's great book "The Whale" or Moby Dick, "The Whale" Guitar is a handcrafted work of sonic art! It was imagined by Jen Long, designed by artist William Schaff, and built by luthier Rachel Rosenkrantz. It features custom electronics by Gwen Forrester of Dismal Ax and embroidered strap by Double Trebble Guitar Straps. Why Moby Dick? Melville’s masterpiece of man vs. nature warns us of the peril of believing ourselves to be separate from and masters over nature. We cannot can harm nature without harming ourselves. “Oh! Ahab, not to late is it, even now, the third day, to desist.”
