The Center for African Studies at the University of California, Berkeley supports basic research and training of scholars. Since 1979, the Center has been a primary locus for research and scholarship on Africa in the San Francisco Bay Area, in the University of California system, throughout the northwestern United States and beyond. Over 89 faculty members from 30 departments and 7 colleges and professional schools at Berkeley bring a broad range of scholarly resources to diverse initiatives focused on Africa.
