Ritmo Lab is a creative studio and production label founded by Puerto Rican and Philadelphian artist Alba Martínez, producing original music and storytelling rooted in the Puerto Rican/ Latino experience.
Our flagship work is La Guagua 47, a bilingual musical written by Martínez. It tells the story of Lucía, a Puerto Rican teen who moves from the island to Philadelphia and struggles to find her place. A ride on the 47 bus introduces her to neighbors who help her discover belonging. La Guagua 47 was a song, and later a film, inspired by a real ride on Philadelphia’s 47 bus. It has grown into a major theatrical and community-centered project in partnership with Philadelphia Theatre Company and Taller Puertorriqueño.
The latest release from the musical is “Ritual del Regreso.” The channel features music, film, and performances from La Guagua 47, alongside standalone Ritmo Lab projects including Parranda en Uber and Novio Eléctrico.
