Launched on November 4, 2013, the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines (IRIM) evolved into Georgia Tech's newest Interdisciplinary Research Institute and builds upon the foundational work in robotics developed on campus over the last decade. Led by Distinguished Professor and KUKA Chair of Robotics Henrik Christensen, IRIM continues Georgia Tech's tradition of designing the next generation of robotics technology and helping to prepare robotics students to be impactful contributors upon entering the high-tech workforce. IRIM brings together all robotics researchers from across campus—spanning colleges, departments and individual labs—to create new collaborative opportunities for faculty, strengthen partnerships with industry and government and maximize the societal impact of the transformative robotics research conducted at Georgia Tech.
