This channels features the research done in Ylona van Dinther's group working on Tectonics and Seismology at Utrecht University.
Our overarching research objective is to understand why, where, and when earthquakes occur to adequately prepare society and ensure a sustainable future. We thus aim to understand and estimate controlling fault stress and strength, how they are controlled by longer-term, tectonic loading processes and previous earthquakes, and thus how that informs us about the spatiotemporal variability of the rich family of aseismic, slow and seismic slip. For more information, please see www.uu.nl/staff/YvanDinther/Research.
This channel also features works we are involved in with collaborators elsewhere. Currently, an important component of our research is done in the light of NWO-DeepNL project "InFocus", which is a collaboration with Femke Vossepoel at TU Delft. InFocus aims at testing data assimilation for earthquakes on laboratory experiments.
