I was never the tallest in my group of friends; nor in my class. So, when I decided to try out for the volleyball team in the 6th grade I was meet with A LOT of uncertainties. Many said “Isn’t volleyball a sport for tall people?” and “Maybe you would be better playing soccer”. Friends, family, and even the coach didn’t believe I would be “physically capable” to succeed at this sport. These statements really did bring down my confidence to try out for the team. It wasn’t until I came across Kevin Durant’s famous quote, “Hard-work beats talent when talent fails to work hard”. At that very moment, I realized I didn’t have to be the biggest, strongest, nor fastest on the team to succeed.This is a motto I have come to live by in everything I do, on and off the court.
